Ann Kavuo Testimony
Simply The Story Oral Bible School Impact in Kenya
The heart warming video below is a short testimony from an elderly African woman who lives near Mombasa, Kenya. This uneducated widow has discovered how she can learn, keep and share the Bible in story, from a repository in her "heart pocket." Listen to her share a well known Bible story (which she can tell but not read!).
Every day, if this plucky five foot, 65 year-old widow couldn't get a ride, she walked 10 kilometers to get to her Oral Bible School.
Ann cannot read! Oddly, as seen in her filmed testimony, she says that now, when she goes preaching, she does not have to carry her Bible, because, "I have the stories in my heart pocket!" Hmm? If Ann cannot read, in the past, why did she bother to carry her Bible? As we teach in our workshops, many non-literate people often carry a book, notebook or Bible, and they put pens in their pockets. They do this to look "educated" and can gain credibility.
Ann's comment may reveal even more. Could it be that her perceived "need" to carry her Bible to give her credibility has now been replaced by her new found ability to easily speak multiple stories from her heart pocket? Ann now has boldness to speak in front of anyone. Consider the boldness it took for this non-literate villager to give her spontaneous testimony in front of 130 people, most strangers to her, Westerners included, while being filmed!
