God's Story Translation Process

The Translation Process 

Every translation project seems overwhelming at first. We at The God’s Story Project are here to work alongside you every step of the way. Even more than this, God is in this with us all.

Each translation follows this same general path:

1. The translation team formed

• Translation coordinator
• Translator
• Grammar and theological checker

• Back-translator – this person translates the new language back into English or a major language for our staff to check accuracy.

2. The team begins translating the 12,000-word script.

3. Each translated section is checked for proper grammar and theological content.

4. Back-translation begins:

• Upon completion of the first 33 text blocks, and continuing on at set intervals, the newly translated script is translated back into English.
• The back-translation is sent to TGSP and checked for accuracy to the original script.
• The checked back-translation is returned to translation team to address any issues identified

5. The translation-back-translation cycle continues until the entire script is approved.

6. Narrator is selected: When the script is about half way done, a narrator should be selected.

7. Recording the new script:

• The completed (approved) script is recorded. God’s Story Project provides guidelines for recording and can provide a recording technician to guide the translation team.
• Before sending the recording to The God’s Story Project studio for mixing with sound effects and video, the newly recorded audio is checked for clarity and accuracy by the translation/recording team.

8. The new recording is sent to the TGSP studio where our sound technician cleans it up and mixes it with the video, music and effects.

9. An evaluation copy with video, music and effects is returned to the translation team for a final field check for accuracy and clarity.

10. Duplication masters are produced and sent to the field for distribution.
